PICTURE THIS FUN: Digital advances make it easier than ever to capture Carnival Cruise Lines fun for posterity. CCL’s new all-digital photo platform has the latest from Olympus, the E-1 -- the first such cameras used on cruise ships -- along with the cruise industry's fastest digital photo lab, developed for CCL by KonicaMinolta Photo Imaging USA Inc. On top of that, photo-retrieval kiosks feature "facial recognition technology" to match guest likenesses with stored "Fun Ship" vacation photos. Images pop up on a computer screen for review, making for quicker purchase. Digital conversion, already on six ships, goes fleetwide this year. Beta-testing of the photo-retrieval kiosk – another industry first – starts on the new Carnival Miracle. Digital advances provide higher quality and let guests customize picks with color borders and other fancy touches.
