Cruise for Life ...

Support TRIO & Maybe Win A Cruise: Carnival and TRIO are pushing for life yet again, presenting the fifth annual "Cruising for Organs" raffle. Proceeds benefit TRIO (Transplant Recipient International Organization) , a global force devoted to promotion of organ donation, with money going to the group's Medications for the Needy Fund and Scholarship Fund, the latter for transplant patients, their families or donor families.

Courtesy of TRIO, some facts & figures: The number of people waiting for organ transplant in the U.S. as of now is 92,752. Transplants completed in 2005 totalled 26,451. Post transplant medications are quite pricey, often exceeding $1,000 per month, and transplant recipients have died because they could not afford to renew their prescriptions.

Now, about the cruise raffle: Tax deductible donations in form of a check should be made out to TRIO Cruise, and your numbers -- hopefully the winning numbers -- will be snailmailed in return. Tickets are $10 each, or three for $25. The raffle winner gets a five-day cruise for two in the Owners Suite aboard either Carnival Inspiration, sailing out of Tampa, or the Imagination, from Miami. This cruise only prize is valued at about $5,000, and does not include transportation or transfers to the port, port charges, taxes (from $300 to $400 for two), or gratuities. The cruise drawing, at TRIO's holiday party near Jacksonville will be Dec. 12. Send checks to TRIO, P.O. Box 600005, Jacksonville, FL 32260. For details, e-mail DuffyMcCoy@comcast.net.
