BACK TO COSTA RICA: Always 180-degrees from ordinary, Windstar Cruises returns to Costa Rica in 2005 after a two-year hiatus, with 10 new 7-day cruises. From Jan. 29 to March 26, and again in December, the 148-passenger Wind Star sails roundtrips from Puerto Caldera. Port calls include San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua; Playa Flamingo, Quepos, Bahia Paraiso (Drake Bay), Curu Reserve, and Tortuga Island, Costa Rica. Costa Rican naturalist Carlos Picado will be aboard every cruise to share insights. The ship’s free water sports program, ideal for the tropics, has an aft platform for water-skiing, kayaking, sailing, banana boating, and windsurfing. Snorkel gear is also complimentary. Staterooms amenities include DVD and CD player, LCD flatscreen TV, stocked mini-bar and snacks, and white terry robes. Gourmet cuisine by chef Joachim Splichal and a Sail Light spa menu by Jeanne Jones combine culinary creativity and splashes of local flavor. The line recently pumped $6 million into its three sailing ships. Fares for the Costa Rica itineraries begin at $2,036 per person, double, for cruise-only bookings made by Oct. 31. Air/sea packages are on tap from San Jose. For details, call (800) 258-7245.

Costa Rica boasts rich and exotic scenery and a
lifestyle to peak the interest of the truly laid-back.
Wondrous adventures abound to gather the attention of
the casual tourist, all the way up to the most daredevil
of all thrill seekers.  For any of you contemplating a trip
to Costa Rica, be sure to spend time taking in the
beauty of the land and the friendliness of the people.
There are waterfalls, canopy tours, watersports, hiking,
diving excursions, as well as many other wonderful
activities in which to partake. For the nature lover,
there are butterfly farms, birdwatching treks, orchid
gardens, and rain-forest explorations.
There also are several volcanoes as well as coffee
plantations and nut-processing farms. Plan to make your
trip to Costa Rica a family experience, as there is
something here for every member of your family. There is
so much to see and do in Costa Rica that one might
easily forget there is poker! If you do, you will be
missing some of the best and friendliest action anywhere
in the world. Poker Costa Rican Style and

top casino There
are two cardrooms in San Jose, Costa Rica. Each is part
of a full-service casino that features most of the games
American casinos offer. Although not ornately decorated
like some of the glitzy, neon-decked casinos in the USA,
the properties in San Jose offer a certain attitude that
a guest would remember fondly long after returning home.
One thing that both cardrooms have in common is the
friendliness of the clientele. You definitely will be
made to feel at home while playing poker in Costa Rica.
One thing to remember when you are playing poker in
Costa Rica is that tournaments here run on Costa Rican
time. What this really means is that an 8:00 tourney
will start about 8:30 or so! Some players actually show
up at 9-9:30 and expect to get into an 8:00 event.
Usually they do manage to enter and no one seems to
mind! Again, this is due the laid-back, easy-going
nature of the people.

less stringent than many of us cardroom regulars are
used to. Once you have played here for a while, you will
see that there is really no problem with anything. The
locals here seem to be very fair-minded and ethical and
they play as hard against each other as they do against
their foreign neighbors, making for good competition as
well as camaraderie. There is no such thing as a
discipline problem and time outs are unheard of. The
normal pre-tournament warning lecture by the director is
totally unnecessary here and is therefore eliminated
from the speech! The entire venue is more like that of a
home game than anything else, and everyone has a good
time, win or lose. When and if you are fortunate enough
to visit San Jose, be sure to stop by the cardrooms and
playpoker.

Your IRA CAN
buy real estate in Costa Rica

If you are looking at real estate overseas, or for a way to get
better returns in your IRA, here is little secret your stock broker will
never tell you about... The IRS lets you purchase
real estate Costa Rica
with income that is tax-deferred. That means that many savvy investors
are investing their IRA funds in
real estate in Costa Rica
The one exception is that you can't use the
Costa Rica real estate in your
IRA as your residence or vacation home, if you are under 59 1/2. Your IRA
custodian must actually buy the real estate you are investing in. For more info go to
